The Crystal

A species of highly adaptable unicellular amoeboid symbionts, able to synthesize nutrients from inside its host or from the environment, as well as interact with and change the DNA of its host.

The crystal is a Facultative Commensalist Endosymbiotic microbe that appeared millions of years ago when a meteor struck the planet. It spread all over the planet in the debris kicked up by the meteor and latched on to any living thing it could to survive the extinction event, attaching to its host's systems and enhancing them. Only a handful of species survived and adapted to it.

When performing magic (synthesizing and changing the environment around itself to its host's liking), the crystal chains will change shape and formation to achieve the desired effect (like cymatics). Chemical communication allows certain cells to act as the central node/spine that the rest of the cells resonate around, with the cells changing their poles/polarity to orient as needed.
